Snap Capp owner, Bill Allen, knows his way around aluminum cans. Following a career with Coca Cola, Allen decided to turn an idea into a business in 2006 with the launch of Snap Capp, a plastic, re-closable top designed to snap onto most 12 and 16 ounce aluminum beverage cans. The Snap Capp, which prevents spills and keeps drinks from going flat, is a product offering convenience with a conscience, as it is entirely made in the U.S. “I put forth my absolute best effort to make sure the Snap Capp is made the way I’d like it to be made, which is to say, it’s made in America to the utmost quality standards,” Allen says.
Snap Capps are available in an array of colors, and the company offers an option to have a custom logo printed on the products. This is appealing to buyers looking to use the Snap Capp as a fundraising item, corporate gift or party favor. Snap Capps are also available preprinted with major sports teams on them, perfect for sports retailers. The best part, Allen finds, is that one size practically fits all. When he demonstrates the product, Allen keeps a few different beverage cans handy, one tall and thin, containing Red Bull, and the other a standard soda can. At first glance, the two cans appear to have a different diameter, but the Snap Capp fits snugly over both and keeps liquid from leaking out. “We needed a product made from a material that was hard enough to be sturdy and snap onto a can, but soft enough so that it was functional and could be removed,” Allen points out. The solution was polyethylene terephthalate, better known as PET, a plastic resin and a form of polyester. Allen chose PET for Snap Capp because his experience in the beverage industry taught him of the material’s functionality. The result is a product that is not only economical and lightweight, but also more shatter resistant than other plastics.
For $.99 per Snap Capp, retailers can order cases of 150 units for $149 per case, then sell the products for $2.99 in their stores. “Snap Capps do well in sports shops, and especially well in hospital gift shops, where they’re useful for bedridden patients,” Allen remarks. “We just sold an order to the U.S. Army as well, as part of their recruitment marketing materials. Of all we’ve done recently, I’m most proud of the fact that we were invited by the United States Commerce Department to travel to Poland, where we were to present on exporting.” The company continues to uphold its quality standards, while working to enrich the domestic economy. In the future, Snap Capp will offer more colors and designs, and help retailers to better serve customers.
