The company started in 2001, based out of a self storage warehouse in College Point, NY. In 2008 it became necessary to move into a 120,000 square foot distribution center in Edison, NJ. MY Import USA maintains a permanent showroom at 230 Fifth Avenue in New York City, and retailers may visit the showroom by contacting Zhang for a personal appointment. The warehouse and showroom house the company’s extensive selection of general merchandise, which includes its own label, Amoray. “That line contains air fresheners, oven cleaners, cotton balls and other basic home items,” Zhang points out. “We’re also big on winter apparel and accessories, as well as licensed products.” Zhang cites an assortment of Marvel and Disney character themed stationary as some of the more popular choices for retailers. Certain products such as bandages and manicure sets are available with countertop or floor displays. The company does not require a minimum order, and offers free shipping with purchases of $1,000 within the tri-state area. “We provide this because we’re able to use our own trucks for those deliveries,” Zhang explains. “We also offer free shipping to any customer in the United States who orders $3,000 worth of merchandise.” For orders out of the tri-state area or below the $3,000 mark, Zhang says he works to deliver the best shipping rates possible. Other incentives are available on a per purchase basis.

The company had solar panels installed at its New Jersey warehouse in 2011, and has been able to run strictly on solar energy for the past two years. MY Import USA is among a growing number of businesses that choose to take the solar route, whether it is to produce fewer emissions and cut down on fuel costs, or to take advantage of U.S. government tax credits. “We have also tried incorporating eco-conscious products and biodegradable items to help the environment, but the solar panel project was our biggest effort,” Zhang remarks. He is looking ahead to the March ASD Show in Las Vegas, where My Import USA has booth 1411 on the upper level of the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

After so many fruitful years in business, MY Import USA has learned what it takes to build a successful company. “The secret is simply quality products at the lowest prices and great customer service,” says Zhang. “Customers like us because we put forth the effort to test our products, and we stand behind our product quality.” The firm’s streamlined website is updated regularly to be sure shoppers have access to the latest product additions, deals and closeouts. It also serves as a database for the company catalogue and contact information. In the rare case that a customer needs to return part of an order, they are able to do so without a hassle, and can find detailed information about the process on the website’s policy page.
