Erazor Bits, now in their 20th anniversary year has been making custom silkscreen graphics since 1993. The company specializes in military, firefighter and emergency medical services novelty T-shirts and glassware.
The name, Erazor Bits, comes from a time before computers. “We used to draw all the designs on drafting boards and at the end of the day we used to sweep up huge baskets of eraser bits,” explains Khalid Shehady, owner. “At the time we were switching to digital so when naming the company the eraser bits disappeared and the bits became bits, like computer bits. We changed the letter s to the letter z to bring in the new age and that’s how we got our name.”
Foil stamped T-shirts
Erazor Bits recently introduced foil stamped T-shirts and according to Shehady they are strong sellers. Some of the designs include foil stamped wings on a Firefighter T-shirt with the words “First in, last out” and a United States Marine Corps shirt with a gold foil globe and eagle. “We’re doing really great with them. It’s not a new technique but we are bringing it to the table with our designs and it’s a nice product that sells well.”
To create the shirts a special technique is used with heat activated glue that is screen printed to ink. Once its run through the dryer, a heat press stamps on metal. The result looks similar to gold leafing. “It’s a pretty cool technique that looks beautiful. It doesn’t wash out and it subtly adds some bling to the T-shirt,” remarks Shehady. “Plus, it has a much more perceived value on the retail level.”
T-shirts sizes small through XL are $8 a piece. XXL shirts are $9 and XXXL shirts are $10. Foil stamped shirts are $1.50 more. To buy, visit erazorbits.com. Pricing is not included online.
