Free Shipping Day is scheduled for Wednesday, December 18, 2013. More than 1,000 merchants are expected to participate and offer free shipping on all orders with guaranteed delivery by Christmas Eve in the contiguous U.S. In order to take part in the event this year, retailers must offer free shipping with no minimum order. Event organizer and CEO Luke Knowles says this strategy will offer more business to those stores that are willing to provide the best deals. Event organizers also recommend that merchants offer a discount, such as 10 percent, to get even more business. Also new this year, users can ask their favorite stores to participate through Twitter using the #FreeShippingDay hashtag.
The annual event, now in its sixth year, is scheduled for one day later than in 2012, six days before Christmas Eve. Last year’s event, when over 60 percent of participating stores offered free shipping without restrictions, pulled in over $1 billion in online sales for the second time in the event’s history.
